Milei Announces New Economic Measures for Argentina

President Javier Milei anticipated that the elimination of the capital controls will change starting January 1, 2026, unless there is an intervention by an IMF disbursement. Milei emphasized that taxes and withholdings will continue to decrease as the economy grows and the government has more resources. He highlighted the reduction of poverty by 10 million people since his assumption of office and acknowledged that the issue of inflation still persists and requires more work for its eradication.

The president stated that he has fulfilled 78% of his campaign promises and announced plans for a new mega Decree of Necessity and Urgency aimed at 50 state agencies. Milei stressed the importance of optimizing public spending through a thorough analysis of resources used in each state department. Additionally, he revealed the intention to repeal what is not used once essential spending is identified.

Milei expressed his conviction that Argentina's success depends exclusively on the country and described his focus on strict fiscal policies, without compromising the goal of zero deficit and maintaining a solid monetary policy. Alluding to Elon Musk's method, he indicated that they aim to close 60% of state agencies, transform or merge the rest to optimize their functioning and reduce administrative costs.

Regarding existing legislation, Milei mentioned that Argentina has 27,000 active laws, 70,000 decrees, and 200,000 resolutions, highlighting the need to address this regulatory complexity as another relevant issue.
