According to a report from the Argentine Federation of Business Entities of Cargo Transportation (FADEEAC), in January, the costs of cargo transportation increased by 2.62%, accumulating a rise of 57.28% in the last 12 months. This data, revealed by the Transportation Cost Index (ICT), shows an advance compared to the previous month, which recorded an increase of 1.7%.
The behavior of costs in January was influenced by lower overall inflation and a recessionary context in certain economic sectors, according to FADEEAC. The entity mentioned that the application of tax deferments on fuels has been key to moderating the increases in diesel, one of the main costs for transportation activity.
The report analyzes 11 sectors that directly affect cargo transportation companies throughout Argentina. During January, the Patents sector recorded the highest increase, with an annual rise of 70.5%. This was followed by General Expenses, with an increase of 3.49%, and Personnel-Driving, with an increase of 3.22% due to wage adjustments from Labor Collective Agreement 40/89.
Regarding fuels, a 2.63% increase was recorded in both the retail and wholesale segments of diesel, while Repairs grew by 2.49%. On the other hand, Financial Cost and Tolls had limited increases in January, despite Tolls being one of the sectors with the highest increases in 2024.
Items related to transportation equipment, such as Rolling Material, Insurance, Lubricants, and Tires, did not show significant changes in January compared to December 2024, according to ICT data.
