The meat businessman and historical reference of Peronism, Alberto Samid, publicly praised the recent decision of the Government to eliminate the export taxes on bovine leather, a measure announced as part of a package to relieve the agricultural sector. The elimination of the taxes on leather is part of a structural measure aimed at promoting the competitiveness of regional economies. "And the best part of this is that meat will now cost 5% less for the people," expressed Samid in a tweet.
These statements reflect a positioning that, at times, has brought him closer to sectors distant from traditional Peronism. In the past, Samid even considered running as a candidate for mayor of La Matanza under the wing of Javier Milei, leader of La Libertad Avanza. "As long as he hasn't governed, I don't want to criticize him," he mentioned at the time, hinting at his interest in exploring new political alliances.
Sergio Castagnani, president of Argentine Rural Confederations, described the tax reduction as "a step forward," while emphasizing the importance of continuing to move towards a total elimination of the taxes. "They need to be brought to zero and that way we will produce double," he opined. The government's measure also received praise from the agricultural sector.
According to the specialized site Bichos de Campo, the previous tax regime on bovine leather artificially depressed the price of this key input, harming the productive sector. In contrast, the elimination of these taxes is seen as a blow to the monopoly of the Galperín family, owners of the tannery Sadesa for over 80 years. This is not the first time Samid has spoken in favor of a tax reduction policy, reaffirming that this measure will help combat monopoly situations. "And the best part of this is that meat will now cost 5% less for the people," highlighted Samid, in support of the governmental initiative.
