The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, reiterated his position on the end of the currency exchange controls during a speech in Switzerland, where he stated that this measure would be eliminated "this year once and for all." Milei also mentioned that they are in the negotiation process with the IMF to finalize a new agreement that could involve a loan of approximately 11 billion dollars.
Regarding the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, the president highlighted that the meetings in Washington had been very positive and that they are working on different alternatives to resolve the problems of the Central Bank’s stocks. Milei emphasized the importance of closing the Central Bank, as promised, to end inflation in the country once and for all.
During his speech, Milei stressed the convergence between the parallel exchange rate and the official rate, which, according to him, brings them closer every day to the definitive exit from the currency exchange controls, which he expressed a negative opinion about, labeling it as "a monstrosity that should never have existed." The president was preparing to return to Argentina after receiving the Röpke award from the Liberal Institute in Switzerland.
