According to a report from the Ministry of Human Capital, in the first half of 2024, poverty measured by deprivations in health, housing, or education reached 61%. Although a significant improvement has been recorded in the second half due to a decrease in inflation, according to official sources.
In the first half of 2024, income poverty, measured by INDEC, was 52.9%. However, when considering individuals or households that, although not considered poor by income, present deprivations in health, housing, or education, the so-called 'multidimensional poverty' rises to 61%. This data was collected by the System of Information, Evaluation, and Monitoring of Social Programs (Siempro), under the Ministry of Human Capital.
The report reveals that among those under 17 years old, the multidimensional poverty index reaches an alarming 72.2%. Projecting the 61% to the total population, there are 29 million people counted. Compared to the first half of 2023, where this index was 54.4%, and the second half of that same year, with 55.4%, one can infer the strong impact that devaluation and rising prices have had on the social fabric.
In relation to the first half of 2023, there has been an increase in the number of poor by income and of poor individuals who present both monetary and non-monetary deprivations. However, the number of people who are poor by income but do not report non-monetary deprivations has decreased. Commenting on this, '[...]'.
