Increase in supermarket sales in November

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses, supermarket sales in Argentina increased by 1.8% in November. However, there is a year-on-year drop of 7.6%.

In November, supermarket sales increased by 1.8% compared to the previous month, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec). However, the total sales index at constant prices showed a year-on-year decrease of 7.6%, with a cumulative drop of 11.9% from January to November.

In detail, the index of the seasonally adjusted series reflected a growth of 1.8% in November, indicating a recovery in that month. Total sales at current prices for November reached 1,824,643.5 million pesos, representing an increase of 138.7% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Regarding product categories, in November 2024, cleaning and perfumery items, dairy products, bakery, and prepared foods and rotisserie showed the largest year-on-year increases, with rises of 174.5%, 171.3%, 158.6%, and 157.1% respectively.

When analyzing wholesale self-service, a decrease of 10.9% in the index of total sales at constant prices was observed in November compared to the same month of the previous year. The cumulative total for January-November 2024 recorded a decrease of 15.0% compared to the previous year.

Despite these figures, the index of the seasonally adjusted series showed an increase of 1.3% in November compared to the previous month. Total sales at current prices in wholesale self-service for November 2024 amounted to 314,577.7 million pesos, representing a growth of 140.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
