The Argentine government announced a 2.43% increase in pensions and an extraordinary bonus of $70,000 for those who receive minimum payments, as well as changes to the requirements for the Universal Pension for Older Adults (PUAM).

Increase in the PUAM and extraordinary bonus for retirees

The amount of the Universal Pension for the Elderly (PUAM) in January 2025 is $282,725.61, which includes the increase of 2.43% determined by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of November 2024 and an extraordinary bonus of $70,000 for those receiving minimum pensions or benefits related to the PUAM. This amount corresponds to 80% of a minimum pension and is adjusted according to the Mobility Law. The beneficiaries of this pension have health coverage and PAMI services, as well as access to family allowances.

In March 2025, the Pension Debt Payment Plan will end, a moratorium that has been essential in realizing nine out of ten new retirements from the National Administration of Social Security (ANSES). Despite its importance, the Government has announced that it will not renew this plan, which has raised concerns among those who do not have the 30 years of contributions required to retire and who are nearing retirement age.

It is essential to consider that more than 30% of workers in Argentina are in an "unregistered" or "informal" employment situation. In this context, it is crucial to verify work history to ensure compliance with the necessary requirements to access retirement. For this purpose, labor contribution information can be checked on the ANSES website by entering with CUIL and Social Security Key.

On the other hand, individuals over 65 years old who do not have any retirement or pension can apply for PUAM if they meet certain requirements, such as reaching the mentioned age, being Argentine or naturalized with specific residency in the country, and not receiving any other national, provincial, or municipal pension benefits, nor unemployment insurance.
