The Argentine government is implementing an investment plan for rolling stock for the year 2024. This plan includes a significant amount of money allocated for the acquisition of both domestic and imported equipment, as well as repairs carried out by third parties. In an effort to modernize and improve the railway service, locomotives and passenger cars are being acquired for different lines.
In addition to the purchase of locomotives and spare parts, improvements are being made in the maintenance workshops of different lines, with the incorporation of modern and essential equipment for performing repairs. In particular, work is underway to acquire 150 passenger cars, intended to replace the fleet of diesel trains on urban lines. Repair work is also progressing on locomotives in the San Martín line.
As part of these improvements, the process of purchasing new locomotives from a Chinese company has begun to enhance the service of the San Martín line. This acquisition, along with other agreements, is part of the Railway Emergency declaration, which has allowed for significant investment in the updating and maintenance of railway infrastructure.
An agreement with a Chinese company will also allow for the arrival of necessary spare parts for performing heavy maintenance on electric cars. These materials are expected to arrive in the second half of 2025 and include a variety of key elements to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trains. The arrival of these spare parts will be critical to address the backlog in scheduled maintenance, which has been caused by a lack of supplies in previous years.
The improvements and agreements with international companies aim to modernize the Argentine railway network, ensuring optimal and safe service for users. A similar upgrade is planned for other maintenance workshops to optimize operations and improve service quality on different train lines in Argentina.
