This is one of the most high-profile criminal cases in Argentina. On June 2, 2023, Cecilia went to the home of her in-laws, Emerenciano Sena and Marcela Acuña, to meet with her husband, César Sena. A camera recorded her entry, but never her exit. The femicide of Cecilia, which gained international attention, caused the official to lose the election. Currently, the Clan Sena is detained in maximum-security prisons and is about to stand trial, along with the cover-up artists, before a jury. In the first sessions, starting this Tuesday, October 28, the selection of popular jurors will take place; they will be the ones to rule on the guilt or innocence of the accused, and the debate will only begin at the end of this week. César, the victim's ex-partner, is charged with doubly aggravated homicide as the perpetrator, while his parents, Emerenciano and Acuña, are accused of being primary participants in the doubly aggravated homicide. Meanwhile, Gustavo Melgarejo, Gustavo Obregón, Griselda Reinoso, and Fabiana González will face trial for the crime of aggravated concealment. The Argentine News Agency contacted Gustavo Briend, the lawyer for the victim's family, in advance, who expressed his happiness that “finally, the long-awaited trial is starting.” Furthermore, the defender confirmed that Gloria Romero, Cecilia's mother, will be present at the debate in Resistencia: “She arrived on Monday, imagine how anxious she is.” Nevertheless, after the investigations, it was proven that the victim's signature on the separation papers was fake. It became known that Acuña did not accept her son's relationship with Cecilia, so they believe that the entire plan was linked to getting rid of her.
This case caused an unprecedented political rupture in Chaco because Emerenciano and his wife Marcela were recognized piquetero leaders linked to Jorge Capitanich, who was then the governor of the province. This was the last time she was seen alive.
Although the young woman's body has still not been found, investigators believe that she was murdered inside the house that afternoon, her body was taken to the family's pigsty, it was burned, and then her remains were scattered in different areas of the Emerenciano neighborhood. During the investigation, various important elements were found, such as the victim's engagement ring, a pendant, photos, and even 16 dental prostheses, which, after analysis, were confirmed to belong to Cecilia.
Another influential point in the case is that a divorce certificate signed four days after the marriage was discovered.
More than two years after the femicide of Cecilia Strzyzowski, the 28-year-old young woman who was murdered in Chaco in June 2023, the case that unraveled provincial politics is coming to a jury trial where the Clan Sena and their accomplices will be judged.
