Scandal in the Argentine Ministry of Security

Former secretary Barreiro is accused of abuse of power, leading to the immediate dismissal of Alberta Canon. This scandal reveals serious problems of corruption and justice in the government.

Scandal in the Argentine Ministry of Security

A recent scandal has shaken the Ministry of Security, involving the officer of the Airport Security Police (PSA), Alberto Martín Canon, and the former Secretary of National Security, Vicente Ventura Barreiro. Canon has reported Barreiro for abuse of power, resulting in the immediate dismissal of the officer, severely affecting his career and economic situation.

Barreiro's aggressive reaction during a security check at the international airport of Resistencia triggered the crisis. While Canon was temporarily serving as the head of operations of the unit, Barreiro burst into a restricted area, causing a confrontation with PSA staff.

Despite Minister Bullrich denouncing Barreiro for corruption just a month after Canon's removal, the management in the Ministry of Security has been criticized for not effectively addressing the alleged abuses of power. Santiago Sautel, director of RealPolitik, pointed out that impunity in such situations is concerning.

Currently, Canon struggles to seek justice with the support of a lawyer, facing obstacles due to a lack of resources. Despite the serious accusations and the possibility of filing a criminal complaint against Barreiro and other officials, both Bullrich and Gallardo have not taken action to correct the injustice suffered by Canon.

Amid the controversy, Canon has expressed his frustration on social media, highlighting the speed with which he was removed from his position and the lack of action from authorities to address his case. Uncertainty continues regarding the resolution of this conflict and the consequences for those involved.
