Young Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Stepdaughter's Murder in Santa Fe

In the first jury trial in Reconquista, Santa Fe province, a young man was sentenced to life in prison for the femicide of his stepdaughter, which occurred in January 2024. The autopsy determined that the girl died as a result of the blows she received. The popular jury found Bruno Luis Martínez, 24, guilty of the qualified homicide (with cruelty, treachery, and by a man against a woman, involving gender-based violence – femicide) of his 3-year-old stepdaughter. Minutes later, the hearing for the determination of the sentence took place, where Judge Claudia Bressán determined the penalty of life in prison, as requested by prosecutors Georgina Díaz and Valentín Hereñú. During the trial, the prosecutors specified that “the femicide of the girl was committed between 8:00 and 13:00 on Monday, January 8, last year, in a dwelling located in the western settlement of the Guadalupe neighborhood”. In their final argument, they stated that in a context of domination over the girl, “he deliberately beat her to cause her more and more pain”, and that “he acted with certainty, aware of the state of defenselessness inherent to any small child”. The result of the autopsy, which was presented during the trial, revealed that the victim suffered a severe skull trauma from the blows, which caused her death the next day. This was the fourth jury trial in Santa Fe.
