Eight young people arrested on charges of participating in illegal street racing in Pinamar were released after hearings held on Monday. The incident took place at "La Frontera," known as "La Olla." Prosecutor Walter Mercuri took statements from the accused and ordered their release after the suspension of the trial for seven of them, which will allow them to reduce the imposed penalty.
The released individuals must each donate $300,000 to the Pinamar Community Hospital, report monthly to the Patronato de Liberados, and take a subsequently certified responsible driving course. However, one of the detainees, who already had a criminal record for the same offense, refused the suspension of the trial and will face another hearing, where he will be explained the consequences of not accepting that judicial agreement.
During the operations carried out in Pinamar, motorcycles, 4x4 trucks, and UTVs used in the illegal street racing were seized. The prosecution coordinated thorough work with undercover agents to capture images and note the license plates of the vehicles involved, which allowed for the identification of the drivers and their subsequent arrests.
