Government Establishes Medal for Citizen Valor

The Government has officially announced the creation of the "Courage of the Citizen" decoration through a decree and awarded the first posthumous medal to Luca Aguilar, the delivery person from the municipality of Moreno who was brutally murdered while intervening in a robbery. The initiative was previously announced by President Javier Milei with a message titled "A hero went to heaven" on a social network. This Friday, decree 64/2025 was published, confirming the creation of the award.

The leader expressed in January that "Luca made the ultimate sacrifice for a stranger, he gave his life to defend him." In his honor, the "Decoration for the Valor of the Common Man" will be created, which will be awarded by the President of the Nation. The first person to receive it, posthumously, will be Luca Aguilar.

Later, it was announced through decree 65/2025 that the first distinction would be granted to Luca Aguilar for his brave action in protecting a street vendor from an attack during a robbery attempt. His sacrifice was made to defend the constitutional rights to life and physical integrity of another citizen. The Government highlights the act of heroism of the young delivery person, who received seven stab wounds in the incident.

The decoration "Courage of the Citizen" will be awarded as a recognition to those who stand out for their actions as an example of civic conduct. It will be conferred by the President and, in case of deserving a new recognition, a bar will be added to the medal. The General Secretariat of the Presidency will keep a record of the recognized individuals along with the actions performed.

The Government emphasizes that decorations are a recognition from society to individuals who serve Argentina and defend life, freedom, and other rights enshrined in the Constitution. The aim is to convey to present and future generations the importance of individual actions in the transformation of society and progress.
