The Municipality of Merlo reported that Dr. Walter Videtta assumed the position of Secretary of Health on January 15, 2026, in a ceremony led by Mayor Gustavo Menéndez at the Eva Perón Hospital. According to the Argentine News Agency, Menéndez highlighted the professional's career within the local system and emphasized his profile linked to public health, while the new official set as his goal to improve results in care to meet the district's health demand. From the municipal management, they stressed that the approach will be comprehensive: from prevention to rehabilitation, with the challenge of sustaining and expanding the response capacity in the territory. In Merlo, the primary care network is a central piece: the municipality itself publishes a list of Health Units numbered up to Nº 37, as well as devices such as the Central Vaccination Center, which shows the size of the local health network. Within that scheme, the district also identifies centers with extended care: for example, the list includes Health Unit Nº 11 with a 24-hour service, used as a reference for guard duties and neighborhood emergencies. After the change, authorities indicated that strengthening the system will depend on both leadership and the daily work of teams in health units, outpatient clinics, and municipal hospitals, an axis that the new management promises to prioritize.
