The National Institute for Seismic Prevention (Inpres) issued an alert this evening about a strong earthquake. The epicenter was located in the vicinity of the city of Mendoza, near the border with San Juan, with a magnitude of five on the Richter scale. The tremor was strong and prolonged, occurring at around 20:30 this Tuesday. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), the earthquake's hypocenter was at a depth of 10 kilometers. The Greater Mendoza area, which encompasses the cities of Las Heras, Guaymallén, Godoy Cruz, Maipú, and Luján de Cuyo, was the most affected, although no damage or injuries have been reported so far. Authorities from the institute confirmed that the tremor was felt 61 kilometers north of Mendoza and 95 kilometers south of San Juan, an area where this type of seismic event is common, similar to other nearby provinces such as San Luis, Córdoba, La Rioja, and Salta.
