"The Road of the Snails" is one of the border crossings that connect Argentina and Chile through the Andes Mountains. The International Pass Los Libertadores, also known as the International Pass Christ the Redeemer, is one of the most challenging routes to traverse due to its curves among the mountains.
On the Argentine side, the slope is not as steep as on the Chilean side, so "The Snail" was not replicated on National Route No. 7. On the other hand, crossing the Christ the Redeemer tunnel to the Chilean side, the slope is greater, and the solution was to build "The Snails," a road 3,080 meters long and 3,175 meters above sea level.
In total, "The Snails" has 29 curves that range from 2,275 to 2,800 meters above sea level. Inaugurated in 1980, this road is near Christ the Redeemer, between Mendoza and Santiago de Chile, symbolizing the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between the two countries.
