Mendoza Advances Energy Sector Reforms

The Government of Mendoza has authorized the transfer of Clúster Norte as part of the Andes Plan within its hydrocarbon development strategy. This measure involves the transfer of conventional assets from large operators to specialized companies focused on production and development, reinforcing the ongoing restructuring trend in the sector.

The Minister of Energy and Environment, Jimena Latorre, highlighted that this model not only revitalizes fields considered mature or marginal but also increases production, attracts investments, and has a positive impact on local communities.

The transfer of mature areas as part of this growing trend in the energy industry reflects that large operators are focusing on unconventional assets, such as Vaca Muerta, while delegating mature areas to specialized companies. In this case, YPF has transferred 100% of its participation in the assets to Petróleos Sudamericanos SA.

Lucas Erio, director of Hydrocarbons at the Ministry of Energy and Environment, pointed out that these areas represent approximately 25% of Mendoza's total production, with an accumulated production of 2,200 m³/d.

The Government of Mendoza is evaluating the extension of concessions for Clúster Norte areas whose deadlines are approaching, aiming to strengthen legal security and promote long-term investment in these strategic areas. The transfer resolution establishes a four-month period to formalize the operation transfer.

The transfer of Clúster Norte to Petróleos Sudamericanos SA marks the second handover of areas within YPF's Andes Plan, continuing the trend of specialization and growth in the industry. This transition aims to maintain productive stability, attract new investments, generate employment, and strengthen local production, ensuring compliance with legal, contractual, and environmental obligations.
