The governor of Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo, has responded to the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, after the latter invited provinces and municipalities to reduce taxes. Through his statements, the Mendoza governor agreed with Caputo that 'Gross Income is the worst of taxes' and emphasized that this tax has already been reduced in Mendoza.
'In Mendoza, just like President Milei, we inherited a destroyed, disordered, and indebted government from Kirchnerism,' the governor pointed out, adding that during his administration they have managed to organize the accounts, reduce the staff, and decrease spending to alleviate the tax burden on the residents of Mendoza.
The governor expressed his agreement on the importance of not compromising fiscal orthodoxy and highlighted that Gross Income is a harmful tax. He also expressed his commitment to continue maintaining fiscal order in the province, indicating that if the national economy continues on a positive path, the tax reductions will be even greater.
Since 2016, the average rate of the Gross Income tax in Mendoza has been reduced from 3.6% to 2.9%, prioritizing primary and intermediate sectors such as agriculture, industry, and transportation. Cornejo also highlighted the national government's effort in laying the foundations for the country's prosperity, showing his support for these measures.
