AFA Confirms No Agreement with San Lorenzo Leadership

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed this Thursday in Ezeiza that there was no agreement with the San Lorenzo leaders following the meeting between Claudio Tapia and the club's main leaders, an encounter aimed at defining the immediate institutional steps. “On this date, at the Lionel Andrés Messi Training Ground, the second meeting was held between the President of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, and the members of the Board of Directors and Assembly of Club Atlético San Lorenzo, in order to listen and try to reach a consensus on the political and institutional life of the entity,” the AFA statement began. It added: “Unfortunately, and despite the efforts of the Association, there has been no agreement that establishes a political project for the benefit of San Lorenzo. This situation causes that, in the coming days, it will be the AFA that determines the steps to follow, always respecting the statutory ways to comply with the current judicial resolution.” The majority of the leaders present requested the declaration of a vacancy, but the AFA decided to take another path. In this framework, Marcelo Moretti ratified that he will not resign from his position. The only transitional government plan was presented by Sergio Costantino, who assured that he has the necessary money to lead this stage. If confirmed, a Board of Directors meeting will be called. The proposed economic plan provides for 66% of the money contributed to be returned during the transitional period, while the remaining 33% will be at the disposal of the club's next government. Tapia emphasized that the transitional administration will be for a limited period and not until the end of the statutory term, scheduled for December 2027. Costantino proposed a duration of one year, while Marcelo Culotta proposed that there be elections within a maximum period of 150 days. The proposal received support from an important sector of the leadership. The AFA demanded that Costantino present the economic guarantees to support the initiative between next Monday and Tuesday. The validation of these funds is a condition for the AFA and the intervening judge to grant final approval to his transitional management. According to what was discussed, the guarantees would be available to be presented.
