Buenos Aires, March 6 (NA) – The former governor of Corrientes, Gustavo Valdés, had previously filed a complaint against opposition politician Martín "Tincho" Ascúa, a 2025 candidate for the Justicialist Party, for demanding that he provide answers regarding the disappearance of Loan Peña.
According to Noticias Argentinas agency, the accusation brought by Valdés against Ascúa is for the crime of defamation, and the complaint was filed with the Provincial Prosecutor's Office.
In the lawsuit, it is alleged that Valdés used the services of the Government's Chief Notary and the State Prosecutor to file the defamation complaint.
It is now known that the trial will begin in April, stemming from the complaint filed by the former provincial governor.
This "legal battle" took place a few months after the child's disappearance, when the opposition candidate publicly, on social media and in the media, asked him to provide explanations about the case.
In this case, Valdés asserts that the opponent "made direct and offensive statements that damage my personal honor".
From the city of Corrientes, NA attempted to access the file, but the response was brief: "I don't think they will allow you, because of the person who made it".
In May 2025, Ascúa decided to file a counter-complaint with the Provincial Justice's Unit for the Reception and Analysis of Cases (Ufrac) and accused the current UCR senator of the crime of embezzlement.
The Justicialist Party had previously made demands regarding Loan.
