The government of Corrientes province has dismissed an audio recording as fake, in which Governor Gustavo Valdés allegedly nervously discusses the disappearance of Loan and demands arrests. Authorities suspect the recording was created using artificial intelligence.

Governor of Corrientes Under Scrutiny Over Fake Audio

At the beginning of the investigation into the disappearance of Loan in Corrientes, a purported audio of Gustavo Valdés, who was then the governor of the province, emerged. In it, he appeared nervous about the case and demanded immediate arrests. "I don't care if he shows up or not. What matters is that someone gets busted," begins the audio allegedly sent by Valdés, which continues with the ecstatic request for arrests: "Stop screwing around and get someone arrested, five days dealing with this." Immediately, the provincial government issued a statement saying that "it is evidently false, having possibly been created using Artificial Intelligence or some other editing method, given its sound characteristics." In turn, according to the document accessed by the Argentine News Agency, the statement manifested that "it was clearly fabricated and viralized with malicious intent to harm the provincial governor." "In it, discontinuities in the tones and pauses can be observed that do not correspond to a real verbalization, in addition to presenting strange noises, which could have been added to hide the lack of sound cohesion that evidences its falseness," the statement concludes. So far, it is not known whether the Justice or the authorities themselves have managed to verify that the audio viralized on WhatsApp was true or created with AI. So far, it has not been clearly known if it was Artificial Intelligence, as denounced by the current senator, or if it was true.
