Milei in Córdoba: Unity Amid Scandal and Focus on Economy

President Javier Milei, accompanied by his wife Karina and Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni, appeared at the Córdoba Stock Exchange. This joint public appearance served as a signal of internal unity at a time when the administration seeks to contain the political cost of the 'Libra' controversy while simultaneously reducing the centrality of other uncomfortable discussions. Milei completely avoided any reference to the 'Libra' case during his speech, which is also a significant signal. The President focused on the idea of profound transformation, inflation slowdown, and the defense of his economic freedom program, aiming not to open new discursive fronts. He spoke about the future, inflation, freedom, and the opposition, but not about 'Libra'. This rhetoric is aimed at consolidating one of the government's identity flags: the idea that economic reforms respond not only to a technical need but also to a doctrinal principle that differentiates it from the interventionism Milei attributes to previous administrations. In the political part of his speech, Milei again attacked Kirchnerism, accusing the opposition of being willing to 'break everything' and commit 'any kind of barbarism' just to harm the government and regain power. This is the confrontational tone characteristic of the President, which tends to find a particularly receptive audience in Córdoba, a district where he maintains high levels of support. On the economic front, Milei reiterated one of the most anticipated forecasts, stating they remain convinced that 'by August, inflation could start at zero'. He also repeated that the country was heading towards a 15,000% annual hyperinflation and defended the current course with a central idea: he will not alter economic policy due to a transient inflation spike. The President stated that it would have been simpler for him to maintain restrictions to navigate the political and economic year with greater ease, but emphasized that doing so would have meant, in his words, advancing against the freedom of Argentines. Milei also presented the lifting of currency controls as a measure consistent with his ideological and vision, promising to sustain the scheme until price increases are definitively defeated.
