Argentina Dismantles Narcoband Using Drones for Prison Smuggling

Argentine law enforcement conducted several operations and successfully dismantled a narcocriminal group that operated from a prison in Córdoba. It was learned that the band members were smuggling drugs and mobile phones into the prison using drones. The provincial government announced in a statement that on Sunday, following a joint investigation using state-of-the-art technology, a narcocriminal group was dismantled. Authorities reported that the accused were entering drugs and cellphones into the First Correctional Complex Reverendo Francisco Luchesse by using drones. The complaint was filed some time ago by the Córdoba Prison Service itself, which, through recently incorporated technological systems, was able to detect unmanned aerial vehicles in real-time over the facility's perimeter, thus tracking their movements. Based on these records, the Ministry of Justice and Labor of Córdoba, through the Penitentiary Organization Secretariat, presented the technical reports and filed the corresponding complaint with the District 11 Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor José Alberto Mana. After the complaint, an investigation was advanced in coordination with the Ministry of Security of Córdoba, which led to a first operation carried out in mid-November in the vicinity of the prison complex, where phones, drone batteries, strings, and prohibited substances were seized. On that occasion, there were no arrests, but after a new procedure, five adults were arrested near the prison. In that operation, three drones, a motorcycle, narcotics, a night vision binocular, knives, and various items used for the transport of prohibited objects were seized. "After analyzing the seized cell phones, a raid was carried out on a home, where a sixth implicated party, a 17-year-old minor, was arrested," they detailed. The adults were charged with the crime of illicit association, and the Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office took over, initiating a parallel case for drug trafficking.
