Gabriela Pérez murder case goes to trial in Argentina

Buenos Aires, December 9 (NA) – The case of Gabriela Mónica Pérez, the young woman who was murdered during a union act in the province of Córdoba in September 2023, will go to trial following the ruling of prosecutor Silvana Fernández. The main accused is Gustavo Omar Herrera, the victim's half-brother.

Pérez's murder occurred on September 9, 2023, during an event of the Union of Workers and Employees of Cleaning, Service and Related Companies of Córdoba (Soelsac) in the Yapeyú neighborhood of Córdoba capital. A meeting was being held at the location regarding the upcoming union elections, in which Nicolás Fitipaldi was vying for power with Franco Saillén. However, in the middle of the delegate's speech, a person dressed in a blue hoodie, a black vest, and with their face covered positioned themselves behind a car and began to shoot.

The 22-year-old young woman was shot in the neck, which caused her death hours later in the hospital where she had undergone emergency surgery.

More than two years after the event, the prosecutor ruled to elevate the case to trial, meaning Gustavo Omar Herrera and Adrián Vallejos (alias “Petaca”) will face the accused of the crimes of aggravated homicide by the use of a firearm with eventual intent and attempted aggravated homicide, reported the media La Voz.

According to what the Argentine News Agency was able to find out, there is a fugitive in the case. This is Luis Mendoza, who has an active arrest warrant. Likewise, there continue to be two suspicions about the attack: a settling of accounts by various factions of the guild or a fight between barra bravas.
