Former Police Officers Sentenced in Femicide Case

Two police officers from Córdoba were sentenced to effective prison time for failing to comply with court orders in the case of the femicide of Giuliana Marianela Silva, 19 years old, murdered by her ex-partner Rodolfo Tissera on July 7, 2019. This occurred when Tissera surprised Giuliana and shot her three times in a planned attack around 10:00 PM that day.

The Tenth Criminal Chamber unanimously declared Hugo Javier Maza guilty of abuse of authority and imposed a sentence of one year and five months of effective prison, with special disqualification for double the time of the sentence. For his part, José Ramón Guevara was found criminally responsible for the same offense and was sentenced to one year and eight months of effective prison, with special disqualification for double the time of the sentence. Both were former police officers and failed to fulfill their duty to protect Silva, who was a victim of another femicide committed by Tissera.

The Popular Jury based its conviction on the investigation conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Economic Criminal Matters of the Second nomination, led by Franco Mondino. Tissera had already been sentenced to life imprisonment for this crime, which occurred in the Suárez neighborhood of the city of Córdoba. The victim had an emergency button that she had used the night before the murder, after Tissera violated the imposed restraining order. Subsequently, Silva made a report, and Maza and Guevara were ordered to establish a police presence at her home.
