On the first day of the trial by popular juries for Néstor Soto, accused of killing Catalina Gutiérrez, the victim's mother stated that "there is only one person who can forgive him, but she is not here." Eleonora Vollenweider broke down emotionally while addressing the alleged femicide in the Criminal and Correctional Chamber of the 11th Nominating of the city of Córdoba: "I opened the doors of my house to you, Néstor."
Vollenweider recalled that Soto shared a meal with her family, did work with her son, and was in her home: "You killed her." The statement from the victim's mother took place in an atmosphere of deep emotion, recalling the moments before the meeting between Catalina and Soto, highlighting the trust placed in him.
Catalina Gutiérrez, an architecture student, was found dead in an empty lot in the Kenneddy neighborhood. Lucía Gutiérrez, Catalina's sister, described the friendship between her sister and Soto as "toxic" and pointed out possessive behaviors from the accused. Meanwhile, the victim's boyfriend, Ezequiel "Zaza" García, labeled him as "jealous."
The crime charged against Néstor Soto is aggravated homicide due to treachery and for being motivated by gender violence (femicide), with a penalty of life imprisonment according to the Penal Code. Throughout the trial, various individuals related to the case are expected to testify to clarify the facts.
At a crucial moment in the testimony, Néstor Aguilar Soto kept his head down and, in tears, asked Eleonora Vollenweider for forgiveness. However, the judges intervened, reminding him that he could not communicate with the witnesses. In response, Vollenweider reminded him that the only person who could forgive him was Catalina, who trusted him.
