Trial for the Femicide of Catalina Gutiérrez Begins Tomorrow

The accused of the femicide of influencer Catalina Gutiérrez, Néstor Aguilar Soto, is considered "fit" to attend the jury trial, which is scheduled to begin in the city of Córdoba. Carlos Hairabedián, lawyer for the victim's family, confirmed that Soto has been examined and it was determined that he is in a condition to appear before the court.

Néstor Aguilar Soto was accused of beating and strangling Catalina Gutiérrez in her home, after which he transported her body to his Renault Clio. He attempted to eliminate evidence by setting the vehicle on fire in the Ampliación Kennedy neighborhood, but he did not manage to burn it completely. The accused had been hospitalized in the Psycho-Assistance Center of Córdoba to undergo an interdisciplinary assessment, requested by his defender Ángela Burgos, to determine his psychological state.

The trial, which had previously been postponed, will take place starting this Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Criminal and Correctional Court of 11th Nomination and will extend until March 19. According to the psychiatric evaluation, Soto showed signs of distress, irritability, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts as a reaction to his legal situation, indicating a serious psychopathological risk.

Soto faces charges of aggravated homicide for treachery and gender violence (femicide) in relation to the murder of Catalina. The tragic event took place on July 17, 2024, when the victim visited Soto at his home before heading to a gathering with friends.
