The 21-year-old, Néstor Aguilar Soto, is accused of killing Catalina Gutiérrez in the city of Córdoba. It was revealed that Gutiérrez was beaten and strangled in Soto's home, and her body was then transported to his Renault Clio, where Soto drove it to the Ampliación Kennedy neighborhood. He attempted to burn the vehicle to eliminate evidence, but it did not catch fire completely.
Soto's attorney, Ángela Burgos, requested a psychiatric evaluation to assess his legal capacity in order to avoid his attendance at the jury trial that is set to begin on Thursday. Carlos Hairabedián, attorney for the victim's family, confirmed this measure, stating that it is a delaying tactic.
Despite considering them delaying maneuvers, the victim's family will not oppose Soto's psychiatric evaluation to prevent possible delays in the trial. The legal process, which will begin on February 27, has Soto charged with aggravated homicide due to premeditation and gender-based violence (femicide). Catalina had gone to Soto's house on July 17, 2024, to attend a meeting with friends.
