Luz y Fuerza Union Rejects EPEC Privatization

The board of the Provincial Energy Company of Córdoba (EPEC) communicated to the unions the provincial government's intention to convert it into a joint-stock company. The Luz y Fuerza Union of the capital of Córdoba rejected this measure, arguing that it would be a step toward privatization.

In a meeting with the unions, the intention to transform EPEC into a joint-stock company was disclosed, which generated rejection from the workers. Alfredo Seydell, secretary of Human Rights of the union, pointed out that this decision could facilitate the future sale of the company, despite assurances that it will not be privatized.

EPEC is a state-owned and self-sufficient company that is part of the Ministry of Public Services. The Luz y Fuerza Union of the capital of Córdoba emphasized the importance of EPEC as the only state-owned company in the country that encompasses the generation, transmission, and distribution of energy.

The union emphasizes that any modification in the legal status of EPEC must be discussed and approved by the provincial Legislature. Although there is not yet an official project, workers remain vigilant and highlight the company's historical resistance to privatization processes in the past.
