On Monday, Luis Galván, world champion defender with the Argentine national team in 1978, passed away at the age of 77. Galván, an idol of Talleres de Córdoba, holds the record for the most matches played with the club's jersey: 503 appearances over 17 seasons spread across two periods, 1970-1982 and 1986-1987.
Galván died after being hospitalized for a month due to a contagious interhospital virus at the Reina Fabiola Clinic in Córdoba, which led to pneumonia, a fatal complication given his fragile health condition. Talleres de Córdoba expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones of the idol, who was initially hospitalized for a kidney infection.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) expressed sorrow over Galván's passing, highlighting his career as a world champion in 1978. Born in Fernández, Santiago del Estero, on February 24, 1948, Galván joined Talleres in 1970, becoming a club legend during his 12 years at the institution.
After his time at Talleres, Galván played for Loma Negra de Olavarría for the 1982/83 season before joining Belgrano, Talleres' main rival. He then played for Central Norte de Salta (1984), Bolívar in Bolivia (his only international experience), and returned to Talleres in 1986, where he concluded his career at the end of the season. Galván played 503 matches with Talleres de Córdoba and participated in the World Cups of 1978 and 1982 with the Argentine national team.
