In the province of Córdoba, a couple died and five other people were injured in a tragic fire that occurred in a guesthouse. The five injured are expected to be discharged soon.
Two of the injured are police officers who attempted to rescue trapped individuals, while the other three are local residents. The deceased victims were identified as Gonzalo Iván Contreras, 29 years old, and María Florencia Rodríguez, 37 years old.
Besides the two fatalities, five other people were rescued and taken to different hospitals. Firefighters reported that the flames consumed the guesthouse in a matter of minutes.
The fire occurred in the San Martín neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon when emergency services were alerted about the rapidly spreading fire in a three-story building. After extinguishing the flames, which completely destroyed the guesthouse, the deceased couple was found in a room.
The injured were taken to the Police Polyclinic and the Emergency Hospital respectively. According to reports from El Doce TV, it is suspected that the fire may have started while workers were welding a section of the building, as neighbors reported seeing sparks before the fire broke out.
The results of the investigations conducted on the structure are expected to be known once the fire has been extinguished.
