In the trial for the deaths of several babies at the Ramón Carrillo Hospital in Córdoba, a neonatologist, Angelina Galleto, testified today in court. She was on duty at two key moments, on May 23 and June 6, 2022.
During her testimony, Galleto mentioned that upon returning from her vacation in May, she was concerned about possible insects in the incubators, noticing that some babies had rashes and skin changes. On the duty of May 23, she heard cries in the recovery room and learned that a baby, I.N.B.G., the son of Julieta Guardia, was in serious condition. He was transferred to intensive care where cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers were performed due to bradycardia.
Regarding the duty on June 6, Galleto recalled that nurse Brenda Agüero approached her with a newborn in her arms, A.G.C.R., the daughter of Yoselin Rojas, stating that the baby was not well. The newborn later died from cardiac arrest despite resuscitation efforts. Another baby, M.M., the daughter of Brisa Molina, experienced severe bradycardia and cardiac arrest the following day and also died.
The neonatologist emphasized that in both cases, resuscitation maneuvers were performed without immediate response. In her next testimony, Angelina Galleto stated that the doctors acted following clinical reasoning, mentioning that the blood glucose of the first baby was low and that a laboratory study was not requested at that time. In an attempt to save the babies, "distant beats" were detected on an electrocardiogram, although unfortunately, none of the newborns were able to recover.
