In the province of Córdoba, two workers and the owner of a burned pension were charged after a couple died and five people were injured in the incident. The prosecution revealed that the establishment, located in the San Martín neighborhood, lacked the required municipal authorization and certification from the Fire Department, which led to the owner's indictment for aggravated negligent damage. The two workers, who were reportedly performing welding tasks minutes before the fire, also face the same charge.
Despite the charges, which carry a penalty of one to five years in prison, no detention order has been issued for the accused so far. Local media reported that during the investigation, it was discovered that 28 people were living in the three-story pension and that the structure was precarious, causing the fire to spread rapidly, consuming the building in a matter of minutes. In the fire, Gonzalo Iván Contreras, 29, and María Florencia Rodríguez, 37, lost their lives.
In addition to the fatalities, five other people, including two police officers and three neighbors, had to be rescued and taken to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
