Investigation into AFA and Talleres de Córdoba

Court number 2 in Criminal and Economic Affairs conducted a raid at the Argentine Football Association related to eight player transfers from Talleres de Córdoba. The investigation is directed towards the club and its president, Andrés Fassi, for possible money laundering activities. A presumed simulation of selling players abroad through the official dollar is being investigated. Judicial authorities requested documentation from the AFA, the entity responsible for regulating and documenting transfers.

Among the transfers under investigation is that of Uruguayan Michael Santos and Colombian Diego Valoyes, who joined the Mexican club Juárez in August 2023, presided by Fassi, and later returned to Argentina to join Vélez in July 2024.

Andrés Fassi, president of Talleres de Córdoba since 2014, has also been part of the Juárez board since 2023. During his tenure at Talleres, he has achieved the promotion of the team to the First Division and participation in international tournaments. Fassi has stood out for acquiring lesser-known players at low prices and then selling them for significant amounts, as has happened with Hincapié, Sosa, and Valoyes.

Recently, Fassi has been involved in disputes with the AFA and its president, Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, related to the sale of rights for Argentine football and the organization of the association. After an incident with referee Andrés Merlos, Fassi has expressed his disagreement with Tapia, especially concerning the proposal to expand to 30 teams in the tournament.
