Alert from Doctor on Typhoid Fever in Ciudadela

Infectologist Eduardo López expressed concern over the cases of typhoid fever detected in a building in Ciudadela, pointing out that there is a common source, possibly in the water, related to these cases. Typhoid fever, caused by the bacteria Salmonella typhi, spreads mainly through contaminated water, raw or undercooked food, and to a lesser extent through contact with fecal matter.

According to López, this disease manifests with symptoms such as high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in severe cases, dehydration or sepsis. Although there is no risk of a widespread epidemic, localized outbreaks may occur, such as those that could be happening in Ciudadela. To prevent typhoid fever, he emphasized the importance of boiling food, disinfecting fruits and vegetables with bleach, and ensuring access to safe drinking water.

The specialist recommended that anyone experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms consult a doctor immediately to avoid the spread of the disease. He also warned about the use of well water without proper treatment and called on authorities to intervene quickly in order to identify and control the source of infection.
