A 55-year-old former police officer from Buenos Aires province was involved in a tragic incident in the town of Cañuelas, where he ended up killing a robber who tried to steal his motorcycle. The event took place on Rojas street, between Allende and route 205, during the night of Saturday.
The couple was riding a motorcycle when they were approached by two motorcycles with four robbers on board. The attackers surrounded the couple and one of them pulled out a gun to threaten them. In response, the former police officer drew his service pistol and fired two shots, seriously wounding one of the assailants in the chest. Despite attempting to escape, the injured robber collapsed a few meters away and died at the scene, while his accomplices managed to flee and remain unidentified.
Local authorities, including police personnel and forensic experts, arrived at the crime scene to gather evidence, including the weapon used by the former police officer, which was seized for examination. Although the ex-officer was not arrested, Justice ruled that he acted in legitimate defense, temporarily exonerating him from criminal responsibility.
However, the investigation of the case is still ongoing and the legal situation of the former police officer could change depending on the evidence and testimonies gathered during the investigation. The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) No. 1 of Cañuelas is in charge of the investigation, which is currently classified as "homicide," although no restrictive measures have been taken against the man so far.
