A tragic scene unfolded this Monday in the city of Berisso, where an 86-year-old woman died at her home following a fire that affected one of the rooms. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred just after 2 p.m. at a residence on 166th Street between 12th and 13th. Police officers from the Patrol Command arrived at the scene after a fire alarm was raised. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a man who identified himself as Mario Luján Mordini Vellot. He stated that his mother, Nelly Irma Noemí Vellot, was inside the house and that smoke was coming from one of the rooms. The police entered, observed fire in one room, and upon opening the door to the affected room, found the woman's body on the floor, naked, with burn marks and flames around her. Volunteer firefighters worked at the scene. Immediately, the Volunteer Firefighters were requested, who managed to extinguish the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to the rest of the house, while an ambulance also arrived and medical personnel confirmed the death. Previously, some neighbors had noticed smoke coming from a window and alerted emergency services. Experts from the Scientific Division and officers from the Fire Department's Accidents Division worked at the scene to determine the origin of the fire. The case was filed as “Investigation of the causes of death” and is being handled by UFI No. 15, led by María Cecilia Corfield. The investigation continues to determine how the fire started and the circumstances that led to the woman's death.
