FIFA has decided to move the Under-20 World Cup from Indonesia to Argentina for the second consecutive time. The decision was made due to protests over Israel's participation and the lack of guarantees from the Indonesian government.
The Argentine Under-20 national team is one of the powers in this category, having won the tournament six times and earned a runner-up position. In the upcoming World Cup, which will take place soon, Argentina will seek to end an 18-year drought, relying on talents like Franco Mastantuono, Claudio 'Diablito' Echeverri, Aarón Anselmino, among others.
On the other hand, Peru has lost the venue for the Under-20 South American Championship scheduled for 2025, due to the crisis in the Peruvian Football Federation caused by the detention of its president, Agustín Lozano. In light of this situation, Conmebol is working to find a new host country for the qualifying tournament for the Under-20 World Cup that will take place in Chile between September and October.
The crisis in the Peruvian Football Federation was triggered recently by the detention of Agustín Lozano and other officials, accused of ties to a criminal organization called 'Los Galácticos.' The charges include fraud, money laundering, and corruption. This is not the first time that a major Under-20 tournament has lost its venue due to internal problems within the federations.
