Argentine tennis player Mariano Navone (7th) secured a significant victory over Slovak Alex Molčan to advance to the semifinals of the ATP 250 in Bucharest, moving one step closer to the top 50 of the rankings. Navone managed to recover from a difficult start to turn the tide and win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 after two hours and 18 minutes of play. The Argentine, who reached the final of this tournament in its 2024 edition, showed great resilience in the third set, where he was initially a break down. Thanks to a strong week in the Romanian tournament, where he is just two wins away from his first ATP title, Navone will get very close to returning to the top 50. According to the Argentine News Agency, he could even climb to as high as 42nd in the world rankings. His opponent in the semifinals will be Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (8th), who earlier defeated Bosnian Damir Džumhur 6-3, 6-3. Their only previous encounter dates back to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Braunschweig Challenger, which Navone won 6-3, 7-5. Meanwhile, French player Titouan Droguet suffered an injury in his match against Spanish player Daniel Mérida and was unable to continue after tying 1-1 in sets (6-4, 6(7)-7(9)) and trailing 3-1 in the third set. Action at the ATP 250 in Bucharest will continue with the remaining two quarterfinal matches.
