Argentinian Athlete Wins World's Southernmost Marathon in Falkland Islands

Argentinian athlete Candela Cerrone, born in Pinamar, was crowned the winner of the 15th edition of the Stanley Marathon, held this Sunday in the Falkland Islands. With an official time of 3 hours, 14 minutes, and 30 seconds, the runner secured first place in the women's category of this competition, considered the world's southernmost marathon. The event, certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, took place on International Women's Day under extremely demanding weather conditions, as confirmed by the Argentine News Agency.

A tough course with extreme wind. The race presented a particular challenge for runners due to strong gusts of wind and the irregularity of the terrain, factors that typically characterize the Falklands circuit. This was compounded by a regulatory peculiarity: due to local regulations, athletes cannot compete with national emblems on their attire, so Cerrone participated without Argentine symbols. This context made the race's conclusion even more significant, when the marathoner celebrated her achievement after crossing the finish line.

"It was very emotional and very tough." After securing the victory, Candela Cerrone described what it meant to complete the race in such demanding conditions. "It was all very emotional and also very tough," expressed the athlete after finishing the event.

The victory of the Argentinian runner on one of the planet's most extreme circuits has become a standout achievement for national athletics, in a competition that each year attracts runners from different countries drawn by the sporting challenge and the unique conditions of the location.
