Atlético Tucumán Fires Coach After Loss

Technical director Hugo Colace was fired from Atlético Tucumán following the team's defeat on Tuesday against Belgrano de Córdoba in the seventh round of the Torneo Apertura of the Professional Football League. According to the Argentine News Agency, the decision was made after the 3-1 loss to the Córdoba-based team, which marked the 'Decano's' fourth defeat in this Torneo Apertura. Atlético Tucumán had a very poor start to 2026, and the situation worsened as the rounds progressed. In their last four matches, the players accumulated three defeats. After seven games, they have only five points, placing them twelfth in Zone B. After the defeat in Córdoba, Colace had acknowledged that 'Argentine football is difficult because you always depend on results; you train all week thinking you will achieve good results.' He also lamented that 'there were tactical deficiencies. From one of our plays in the first half, we lose it and then comes the counterattack, and the goal from a free kick. It's no longer tactical because it's a set-piece play.' The 'Decano's' management is already said to have three coaches in mind to replace him: Omar de Felippe, Cristian 'Kily' González, and Daniel Oldrá. De Felippe comes off a very successful stint at Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero, with whom he won the Copa Argentina in 2024 and had a decent performance in last year's Copa Libertadores. González, for his part, has already coached Rosario Central and Unión de Santa Fe, while his last experience was at Platense, where he achieved very poor results. Oldrá, for his part, was one of the most curious figures of this Torneo Apertura, as he left his post as coach of Instituto de Córdoba after the second round. Atlético Tucumán's next match will be on Tuesday, March 3, when they host Racing for the eighth round of the Torneo Apertura.
