The government announced today the cancellation of the privileged retirement of former president Cristina Kirchner, along with the pension she received from her deceased husband, Néstor Kirchner. The decision is based on a resolution published in the Official Bulletin stating that the allocations are incompatible for those who have committed crimes during their public function.
Resolution 1092/2024 refers to the confirmation of Cristina Kirchner's conviction to 6 years in prison for fraudulent administration to the detriment of public administration. According to the document, the allocations granted to the former president become incompatible with this conviction. It is emphasized that the privileged retirement and pension are eliminated as a consequence of having committed a crime while in public office.
It is underlined that the benefits provided to former presidents and vice presidents of the Nation are a discretionary allocation granted in recognition of honor, merit, and good performance of the position, without being based on prior contributions from the beneficiaries. The reception of this benefit requires good performance in the office at the highest levels of the Nation.
During the press conference, the presidential spokesman clarified that Cristina Kirchner will be able to continue receiving a pension and retirement based on her contributions, without receiving an additional for privileges. It was also reported that the former president will have the possibility to appeal the measure.
In response to the decision, Cristina Kirchner expressed: "Do you now want to judge the honor and performance of former presidents?"
