Argentina's government, led by Javier Milei, faces criticism for being the sole country to reject a UN resolution aimed at combating violence against women and girls.

Argentina Rejects UN Resolution on Violence Against Women

Javier Milei's government sparked controversy by rejecting a UN resolution to combat violence against women and girls, being Argentina the only country to oppose it. In response, PRO criticized the stance, indicating that Argentina voted alone against the rest of humanity and highlighting the importance of having a balanced foreign policy. In contrast, 13 countries abstained from voting on the resolution.

Chief of Cabinet Guillermo Francos explained that the reason behind this decision was to uninstall an agenda that has been used for internal political purposes, without aligning with any particular country. This measure came after Argentina rejected another resolution related to the rights of indigenous peoples days earlier.

PRO emphasized the importance of acting strategically, prioritizing national interests, and promoting diplomatic relationships that foster Argentina's development without falling into dependencies or unnecessary confrontations. The rejected resolution aimed to eradicate gender violence and guide states to develop protection mechanisms for women in all forms.

In contrast to Argentina's decision, 170 countries expressed their support for the initiative, including Brazil, Spain, the United States, and Israel. It is essential to highlight that this rejection has generated a new short circuit between the government and the party led by Mauricio Macri.
