The legislature of Río Negro approved a law that prohibits the commercialization of fireworks and explosive devices throughout the provincial territory. Decree number 420 of Law 5,761, published in the Official Bulletin, enacted the measure known as the Zero Pyrotechnics Law, which restricts public sale, wholesale and retail, free distribution, street sales, and private use of these items, except for those with a luminous character.
The prohibition comes just days before the Christmas and New Year celebrations, traditional times for the use of fireworks. The regulation aims to reduce the sound impact caused by these devices, as well as minimize the risks of forest fires and other associated dangers. Additionally, it seeks to protect individuals sensitive to noise, such as children with autism, and animals.
A free hotline will be established for citizens to report any violation of the prohibition on the sale, use, or manufacture of pyrotechnic products. Groups and organizations that advocated for this measure welcomed its implementation, highlighting that it responds to a widely shared social demand.
Legislator Magdalena Odarda emphasized the importance of this law as a result of collective work among organizations and sectors of society that fight for inclusion and respect. Odarda mentioned in a statement to the local press that "it is a fundamental step towards peaceful coexistence and the protection of those who suffer the most from the use of pyrotechnics."
