Argentina Appoints New Ambassador to the USA

The government of Javier Milei appointed the new Argentine ambassador to the United States, according to confirmation from the Foreign Ministry led by Gerardo Werthein. The technology entrepreneur Alejandro 'Alec' Oxenford was selected to strengthen bilateral relations and promote cooperation between both nations.

Oxenford will replace Gerardo Werthein, who assumed duties in the Foreign Ministry after the unexpected departure of Diana Mondino, creating a diplomatic crisis. The appointment of the new ambassador was announced in an official statement from the Foreign Ministry highlighting his experience and commitment to fostering fruitful ties between Argentina and the United States.

Alejandro 'Alec' Oxenford, recognized for being a pioneer in technology ventures from the 90s dot-com era, founder of platforms such as DeRemate.com, OLX, and Alpha Capital, was chosen to represent Argentina in the United States. Oxenford expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him by Milei's government and expressed his enthusiasm for working towards freedom and strengthening Argentina's position internationally.

Amid the restructuring in the Foreign Ministry, which included the resignation of all the secretaries and undersecretaries who accompanied Diana Mondino when Argentina opposed the United States' blockade against Cuba, Oxenford joined the diplomatic effort. Under Gerardo Werthein's guidance, the government team, and the inspiration of President Milei, Oxenford ensured that he would seek to position Argentina prominently in the United States and globally.

The new ambassador, who in addition to his technological experience has collected contemporary Argentine art from the 21st century and chaired ArteBA from 2013 to 2019, closed his initial message with a quote from Nelson Mandela about the importance and responsibility of public service.
