The National Criminal Chamber has decided to revoke the initial ruling and has granted authorization for the mayor of La Matanza, Fernando Espinoza, to travel to Barcelona to participate in the "SmartCity Expo World Congress."
The judges Rodolfo Pociello Argerich and Juan Cicciaro stated: "It is appropriate to revoke the contested ruling and grant the requested authorization under the mentioned bail." Espinoza must report his return to the country within 48 hours after his return from the mentioned conference.
This authorization has been granted after Espinoza underwent a psychiatric evaluation to which he had previously failed to attend, despite being prosecuted for sexual abuse. The Appeals Court considered that the expert requirement was met, overturning the denial of authorization by Judge Luis Schelgel at first instance.
To be able to leave the country, Espinoza must deposit a bail of ten million pesos. This decision has generated some controversy in the political and judicial context.
