New regulations for public jobs in Argentina

The National Government has announced the implementation of internal audits with the aim of ensuring that the selection processes for jobs in the public administration are based solely on merit and competence. This measure is part of Decree 959/2024, which seeks to promote equity and transparency in hiring within the National Public Sector.

One of the key provisions of the decree is the requirement that all competitions to enter public administration be open and accessible to the general public. Additionally, it establishes the creation of independent evaluation committees, composed of impartial members, responsible for overseeing that the selection processes are carried out fairly.

The new regime also contemplates the imposition of sanctions on officials who do not comply with established regulations or who favor nepotism practices. These sanctions range from suspension to removal, depending on the severity of the violation committed.

Decree 959/2024 expressly prohibits access to public positions based on family ties, political affinities, or influences. Furthermore, competitive selection processes with previously specified requirements will be demanded to avoid any kind of favoritism.

Regarding the supervision and audit of the selection processes, the decree enables periodic audits conducted by the Anti-Corruption Office in order to verify the transparency of these processes and ensure that there is no undue interference in staff selection.

According to the Executive Branch, this measure's main objective is to ensure that access to state jobs is based exclusively on merit and competence, thereby eliminating nepotism practices in appointments within the National Public Sector.
