Argentina Avoids Gray List Sanctions

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) approved the Mutual Evaluation Report of the Argentine Republic, thus preventing the country from being placed on the organization's gray list and avoiding sanctions. This approval took place during the fourth round of mutual evaluations held in Paris, France. The Argentine delegation included the Minister of Justice, Mariano Cáneo Libarona, the Secretary of Justice, Sebastián Amerio, the head of the Financial Information Unit (UIF), Ignacio Yacobucci, the President of the Chamber of Cassation, Mariano Borinsky, and diplomat Eugenio Curia, among others.

After the approval of the report, Mariano Cáneo Libarona expressed his satisfaction and highlighted the hard work done by the Argentine Government to strengthen compliance with international standards in the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Argentina thanked the observations received during the evaluation process and reaffirmed its commitment in this area.

The approved report is the result of an exhaustive evaluation process carried out by the Argentine State, through the Coordination Committee for the Prevention and Fight against Money Laundering, the Financing of Terrorism, and the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. This report highlighted the effectiveness in investigating, prosecuting, and sanctioning the crime of money laundering, as well as the recovery of assets derived from these crimes.

During the sessions in Paris, the Argentine delegation actively participated in working groups and bilateral meetings, responding to inquiries from delegations of FATF member countries. In the final plenary meeting, the final report was discussed, reflecting an improvement in the proposed rating for issues of international cooperation.
