Deputy Carlos Cisneros faces immunity waiver over trafficking allegations

Deputy Carlos Cisneros, of the Justicialist Party, still has not been stripped of his parliamentary immunity by the Chamber of Deputies, despite serious allegations of human trafficking and illicit association. A federal judge and the prosecutor's office are investigating the case, while the deputy himself calls it 'political persecution'.

Deputy Carlos Cisneros faces immunity waiver over trafficking allegations

National Assembly deputy Carlos Cisneros, representing the Justicialist Party (PJ), has still not been stripped of his parliamentary immunity by the Chamber of Deputies, despite recent accusations of human trafficking and illicit association. Meanwhile, the La Libertad Avanza (LLA) bloc, through Lilia Lemoine, presented a bill to request the matter be treated as soon as possible in the Constitutional Affairs Committee. Federal Judge Guillermo Díaz Martínez, in charge of Federal Court No. 2 in Tucumán, formally notified the lower chamber of his request, explained the legislator's procedural situation, and asked for the analysis of the waiver of immunity to advance the investigation of the case. The various complaints against Cisneros stem from the alleged sexual abuse case (in which four former Vélez Sarsfield players were involved) in the province of Tucumán during 2024. Throughout his union and political career, he has always and in any area defended the rights of workers, prioritizing his commitment to them,” concluded the union led by national deputy Sergio Palazzo. At that time, one of the footballers, José Florentín, pointed to the deputy as part of a human trafficking network structure. The legislator, who also serves as the Administration Secretary of the Banking Association, was subpoenaed for questioning in mid-March before the Federal Justice of Tucumán, and in his defense, he denied all accusations and assured he has a "clear conscience." Along the same lines, he stated that the complaints he received are part of a "political and judicial persecution" in his province, after having publicly denounced irregularities in the local Public Prosecutor's Office and due to his confrontation with Governor Osvaldo Jaldo. In parallel, the prosecutor's office is also investigating people from the deputy's circle, including lawyer Patricia Neme, who represented the woman who accused the Vélez players, and Cisneros's collaborator, Federico Petraglia. Likewise, irregularities would have been found in the acquisition of high-value properties in Tafí del Valle by the deputy's inner circle, although the focus remains on the investigations into the human trafficking network. Despite his judicial situation, Cisneros remains active in his seat in the Chamber of Deputies, and even in December of last year, together with the Civil Association Red de Defensa de Usuarios y Consumidores (REDECU), he promoted an amparo where he managed to get PAMI to restore 100% coverage for medications for retirees. For its part, on March 13, the Banking Association published a statement in solidarity with the deputy and union leader, and classified the complaints as "part of an attack on the organization." "From the Banking Association, we express our full support and solidarity with comrade Carlos Cisneros, who is suffering an unjustified and false attack," the statement read.
