Argentina's Defense Minister, Carlos Presti, met in the United States with the Deputy Secretary of War, Joseph Humire, to advance negotiations for the purchase of Black Hawk military helicopters, beyond talks about the situation of the war with Iran. According to the Argentine News Agency, the meeting analyzed the possibility of acquiring—or even receiving as a donation—Black Hawk helicopters that the United States no longer uses. The potential operation would be carried out through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, which allows Washington to sell equipment, services, and training to allied countries, ensuring common standards and interoperability capability. The Ministry of Defense highlights that the objective is to improve the protection of critical infrastructure in the country, such as Vaca Muerta, nuclear power plants, ports, and strategic mineral deposits. In this sense, the Black Hawk helicopters would allow for greater deployment capability in the event of emergencies. The meeting took place in parallel to the escalation of tension in the Middle East due to the war between the United States, Israel, and Iran, although official sources clarified that Washington did not request military assistance from Argentina. They even pointed out that the country currently lacks the necessary equipment—such as drone systems on ships—to intervene in such scenarios. Before the meeting, Presti also met with the Argentine ambassador to the OAS, Carlos Cherniak, and with Alberto Fohrig, a former official of the Argentine Ministry of Security, who was previously appointed as a liaison for Haiti by the organization's Secretary General, Albert Ramdin. The meeting also discussed the institutional crisis in Haiti, where the government of Donald Trump has a special interest because transnational criminal societies proliferate there, using the island for drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other crimes.
